Opposing Counsel

Author's Note: Set after TOS episode, “Mother's Day”. While not shown, I couldn't help but imagine that something more than conversation happened between our intrepid ADA and the manipulative, albeit attractive, defense attorney. Elaborated on in Four Things Serena Southerlyn Never Said.

“You can't blame a girl for trying.”

Serena couldn't help but close her eyes at the familiar scent of Kay Hartley's perfume, as the defense attorney slid onto the adjoining bar stool.

“Actually, I can. You lied to me, Kay. Worse, you lied to your client, and that's unforgivable,” Serena answered, turning slightly to meet Kay's eyes.

“You're just mad because you think that our, um, encounter, in the ladies' room was just about winning my case,” Kay retorted with a sly grin.

“I can live with you fucking me, Kay. What I can't live with is you fucking the system just to get a corner office,” Serena stated emphatically, tossing a twenty on the bar as she turned and left.
